The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and continues to be under the sponsorship and supervision of this organization. The NHS was created with the intent to recognize and encourage academic achievement while also developing essential characteristics to be citizens in a democracy as the organization chose the ideals of scholarship, character, service and leadership in the selection of members and its activity.
The NHS colors are blue and gold; the Society's motto is "Noblesse Oblige" which means nobility obligates; the official flower is the yellow rose and the insignia is the keystone and the flaming torch.

The Lincoln Southwest Chapter of the National Honor Society has had an exceptional year. We were commonly active in the community service activites both in the community and in the school. From going door-to-door asking for pennies to battling the blistering cold while bell ringing, we were always happy to be helping our commuinty. In the school, we lead another successful dodgeball tournament. The proceeds from the tournament are helping us add a new and innovative addition to the school: the memorial garden.
Our group's devotion to the four pillars of NHS-scholarship, leadership, service, character-is the key to our success. Each member actively displayed the four pillars when they were in school and out in the community. Because the commitment of our NHS members is so high, we are albe to reach a standard that no other Southwest Chapter has achieved before.
