For the Next Tutoring Director

LSW Tutoring Program

The LSW Tutorial Instruction is a peer tutoring program, in which students will either have the opportunity to volunteer as a tutor or become assisted in almost any school subject. The program allows for both school community interaction and academic supplement for those who may be struggling in an academic concept. Both math and science tutoring will take place in room B111 (Math Help Room) and tutoring in English, history, and foreign language will take place in the Media Center. Music tutoring will take place in the band room. Tutors will be signed in and out for recorded volunteer hours

If you are in NHS

If you plan on tutoring for NHS points, every hour will be one point. There will be another sign up deadline for those who want to tutor next semester. For those of you already signed up, you do not need to sign up again.

If You Want to be an LSW Tutor

  1. Choose which subjects you would want to tutor in this year. You must have had a grade of "A" in that subject in order to be a tutor for it.
  2. Download the Teacher Approval Form, and have the teacher that gave you an "A" in that subject fills out the form. (This ensures that your teacher feels comfortable with you assisting in his/her class subject.) Please turn your teacher approval form in to Dan Zhou (LSW Senior), Ms. Finkhouse (Counseling Center), Mr. Ahlschwede (Math Department), or Mr. Golden (Science Department).
    • Exception: If the subject is a math course and follows the chain of classes "Algebra I" to "Geometry" to "Algebra II" to "Pre-Calculus" to "Calculus," and if you are qualified to tutor in an upper level course, as long as you acquired an "A" from the lower courses, you are qualified to tutor in those courses as well. (For example, if you are qualified to tutor in Pre-Calculus but also got an "A" in Advanced Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra I, you are qualified to tutor in those three fields as well as Pre-Calculus.)
  3. Fill out the online application. If you are NOT an NHS member, then you are free to come in whenever you can. Your hours will be recorded once your teacher approval form is in.

If You Need to be Tutored

Thank you for considering the LSW tutoring program. If you are a student that needs scheduled assistance on any math/science subject, please fill out this online form, and you will be matched up with a tutor.
