The third week of school is nearly complete and the Silver Hawks haven’t missed a beat switching back into “school mode” following summer vacation. During the first week of school I had the opportunity to meet with each grade level to welcome them back, and I have been impressed by how quickly students have committed to making the most of the year ahead. There is a tangible positive energy throughout the building that has been unifying and contagious.
Instructionally, our focus this year is on developing strategies that integrate technology into our instruction in ways that improve our effectiveness and increase student engagement in the learning process. The arrival of Chromebooks provides us with tremendous new opportunities to connect with our students and to help them connect to their course work. Throughout the year our staff will continue to learn and develop strategies that capitalize on the increased access to instructional technology tools that our students now enjoy. This is an exciting time to be a student and a teacher as we usher in this new era of teaching and learning. What is not new and what will remain unchanged is our work to ensure that quality instruction is taking place in each of our classrooms. Increased access to instructional technology is only meaningful for our students if we prioritize the “instructional” aspect of its use. Here at Southwest we are committed to doing just that.
Thank you all for a wonderful start to the 2017-2018 school year as we continue our work here at Southwest, where success is a goal and excellence is an expectation.
