From the Principal's Desk...(Mike Gillotti)

With only three weeks of school remaining we are quickly approaching the end of term two. As students prepare for the end of the term and their final exams, now is also a good time to look ahead on Synergy to make sure that term three schedules are completed and in place. With counselors away during winter break, it’s important to plan ahead so that classes are in place when everyone returns to start term three in January.

Thank you to all the coaches, athletes and community members who helped support and cheer on our Silver Hawk activities this past fall. It was another outstanding season for our student athletes. Our prep level teams continued to find competitive success while providing our student athletes with valuable coaching and experience in an effort to help prepare them for future varsity level competition. At the varsity level, every one of our teams competed in the state tournament this past fall with softball, girls golf and boys cross country finishing as state runners up in their tournaments. The LSW boys tennis bringing home the 2017 state championship! Winter sports and activities are now in full swing.

Outside of the athletic arena our speech and debate teams have started their seasons off strong and both recently received an exciting recognition from the National Speech & Debate Association. The Lincoln Southwest speech and debate team has been named one of the top 100 schools in the National Speech and Debate Association for their work during the 2016-2017 school year. Our program ranked 25th out of 3,000 schools nationwide. This is a tremendous honor and we are very proud of the hard work our coaches and students have done to earn this recognition.

Our performing arts programs have some wonderful winter entertainment in store for our community this December. Our vocal and instrumental music programs will host a combined concert in our main gym on the evening of December 11th at 6:30 p.m. Prior to that LSW Theater will perform “It’s A Wonderful Life” at 7:00 p.m. December 7-9 for their annual winter show. Each of these events represent the culmination of hours and hours of rehearsal and practice for our students throughout this term and both showcase a wide variety of talented Silver Hawks.

We are poised to end term two on a positive note. Please encourage your students to plan ahead as they prepare for final exams by communicating with their teachers to ask questions and receive extra help when needed so that they may make the most of the time remaining before classes dismiss for winter break.

Thank you for all you do for our Silver Hawks
