May 14th is… National Dance Like a Chicken Day
National Dance Like a Chicken Day on May 14th encourages everyone to dance like a chicken! This day entertains from start to finish with people flapping their arms and strutting chicken-like. Everyone has probably danced the “Chicken Dance” at least once in their lifetime. This silly fun song is popular at wedding dances, Oktoberfest, and other celebrations, too. The song gets people of all ages up and moving on the dance floor.
Written in the 1950s by Werner Thomas, a Swiss accordionist, the Chicken Dance didn’t even make it to the United States until sometime in the 1970s. The Chicken Dance is associated with polkas or oom-pah-pah music. Originally written with the name Der Ententanz (The Duck Dance), the song’s title later changed to Vogeltanz (The Bird Dance).
Upon arriving in America in the 1970s, the song acquired choreography with repetitive beak, wing, and tail motions, as well as the new name, The Chicken Dance.

Tickets are now on sale for LSW Theatre’s final show of the year, The LSW Student & Faculty Cabaret. This show features 26 different singing, acting, and dance performances by your fellow Silver Hawk Students & Teachers. Due to pandemic restrictions, the only people allowed to attend the in-person performances here at school are the families of the cast and crew. BUT, you’re in luck, because both performances are being professionally live streamed! To support these amazing acts, all you have to do is go to www.showtix4u.com and purchase either an Individual Live Stream Viewing or a Family/Group Live Stream Viewing. Performances are Monday, May 17th, and Tuesday, May 18th at 7:00 p.m.
Media Center – Return Chromebooks & Chargers
A reminder that if you have borrowed a Chromebook or charger from the media center, please return your items back to the media center so they can be checked back in. Not doing so will result in having the item added to your student fines account.
Seniors and their Google Drives
This is a very important message for LPS Seniors (graduates): We urge EVERY Senior to retrieve their Google Drive files prior to leaving LPS. Even if unsure if you want those files, it is very important to grab those items NOW. As soon as you leave LPS (even the day after you leave), the files will no longer be available to you. The easiest way to transfer and maintain access is by transferring LPS Google Drive files to a personal Google account, but can also be downloaded and moved to a separate drive.
Senior Graduation Items
Please visit www.signaturegraduation.com for all your graduation items needs. If you are free and reduced, please see Abbey Traynoiwicz in the main office for your order. You will also need to fill out a Fee Waiver Form.
Please check the List of Potential 2021 Graduates posted in the Class of 2021 Google Classroom. Please make sure your full LEGAL name is spelled correctly. Diplomas will be printed as shown. See Mrs. Cornell, Registrar, at email@example.com if there are ANY changes.
Come to the library or join the Zoom meeting on Wednesdays after school, where NHS students can help you with any subject. If you’d like a one on one tutor, fill out the tutor request form that can be found on the NHS website and the Counselor’s website. NHS will also be holding some ACT Prep sessions this term so be listening for announcements about those in the future.

Temporary Part-Time up to Full-Time Position at the UNL Research Center:
The Midwest Roadside Safety Facility, a research center at UNL, is hiring additional help at the Outdoor Test Site over the summer. The Construction and Testing Technician position is temporary part-time up to full-time for students 16 and older and is primarily outside at the Test Site near Lincoln Airport. This is a position that is typically filled by undergraduates, from freshman up through seniors, so they are experienced working with students. For any students who are thinking of attending UNL for mechanical engineering, civil engineering, construction management, or a related major, this is a great opportunity for hands-on experience to get a foot in the door for an internship later at UNL. Contact email@example.com to apply.
