The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study and leadership training. The Coolidge may be used by recipients at any American university. Anyone of any background, pursuing any academic discipline of study, may apply to this non-partisan, need-blind, program.
Students apply for the Coolidge Scholarship during their junior year of high school. Finalists are flown in for a finalist weekend at the Coolidge Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, Vermont where they interview with the Coolidge Scholars Finalist Jury, chaired by Dr. Bruce Cole, former chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Recipients of the Coolidge Scholarship are notified of their award in late May of their junior year, before college application.

The Salvation Army is now accepting applications for the DJs Hero Awards. Given in memory of D.J. Sokol, the awards, recognize Nebraska high school seniors who exemplify D.J.'s dedication of faith, selfless acts for others, and commitment to the community. At the Nebraska Society’s Spring Meeting on Sunday, April 24, 2016, the Society will award the second Nebraska Society of Mayflower Descendants Burt & Becky Whedon Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,620 to a high school senior planning to attend an accredited 4-year college or university during the 2016-‘17 academic year.
Scholarship applicants must be a resident of Nebraska and a U.S. citizen. Applicants will be evaluated by a written essay, GPA and class rank, ACT or SAT scores, honors received, school or volunteer activities, employment, demonstrated leadership and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor. Mayflower ancestry is NOT a requirement.

LIBA (Lincoln Independent Business Association) is offering a total of 12 $1,000 LIBA Free Enterprise Scholarships to high school seniors. Eight of the 12 scholarships will be awarded annually to a high school senior & four of the 12 scholrships will be awarded annual to dependents of of all LIBA member business owners and their employees.

UNO’s Goodrich Scholarship Program application deadline is Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 5:00PM (CST). Applicants can apply online at https://goodrich.fluidreview.com/. Unofficial high school transcripts and ACT/SAT scores will still be directly uploaded by the applicant in their online Goodrich application account.
February 20, 2016 will be the last available date for the English Placement and Proficiency Exam (EPPE) to be eligible for our application process (as testing must be posted by the March 1, 2016 deadline). Please note that all applicants are required to take this free exam.
The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is now available at www.jackierobinson.org. The JRF application is the vehicle through which more than 3,000 talented young minority high school students apply to become JRF Scholars and carry on the civic-minded legacy of the Foundation’s namesake, Jackie Robinson. The deadline to submit the application for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is February 15, 2016 by 5:00 pm ET.
To be eligible for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must:
Two $4,000 scholarships will be awarded, with each scholarship payable in four equal installments of $1,000 per semester over the course of academic years 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. In addition, two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded for the academic year 2016-2017, payable in two installments of $1,000 per semester. Students must be entering a college or university as a freshman in the fall of 2016. The $4,000 scholarships are funded by the Nebraska Insurance Federation and will be awarded to students entering the University of Nebraska at one of its three campuses in Lincoln, Omaha, or Kearney. The $2,000 scholarships are funded by the Nebraska Actuaries Club and will be awarded to a student entering any college or university in the state of Nebraska. Each scholarship is open to students graduating from any U.S. high school. Students must major in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics with an interest in pursuing an actuarial career. All applicants must have demonstrated mathematical ability and evidence of some understanding of the actuarial field.

Hawks we are teaming up with the American Heart Association for a “Red Out” for our basketball game against LSE on February 5th. T-shirts are $10.00 and they are available by the trophy case before and after school. All proceeds go directly to the American Heart Association to help fight cardiovascular disease.
For any student not currently in an LSW Choir that is interested in being in a choir next school year, Auditions are January 19-29. This is more for us to meet you and give you information. Southwest High School students and parents, it is time to begin the course registration process for the 2016-17 school year. Details regarding the registration process can be found on our school’s website. Access to course registration is done through the Synergy ParentVUE/StudentVue using the "course register" tab on the left of the screen. The registration window will be open from Friday, January 8th through Sunday, February 7th. To complete this registration process, you will need to use a computer not your phone app. For students and families who would like assistance with the online registration process, dates and times for help sessions are listed on the school’s website.
