We are now accepting applications for The Peter Kiewit Institute’s summer academies!  There are two amazing opportunities to choose from:

The Holland Academy of Excellence-June 11-14th

-Designed for students who enjoy math and science and have an interest in engineering and technology

-Build water pumps, test bridge strength and

-Faculty led workshops in state-of-the-art labs

PKI/OPPD Sustainability Academy-July 24-27th

-Interactive workshops, hands-on demonstrations, tours of high performance buildings and a student design competition

-Build your own cell phone charger, experiment in the lighting lab and learn about careers in sustainability

-Students will leave with a knowledge of biomimicry and how it fits into sustainability

Both of these camps are open to ALL high school students!  Students will stay overnight at the Scott Residence Hall on UNO’s south campus and dine at Scott Café.  Fun activities and field trips have been planned for every evening.

The Nebraska School Counselor Association Scholarship is available to any high school senior in support of their post-secondary education. Three $500 scholarships will be awarded. Myrtle Chapter No. 94, Order of the Eastern Star of Lincoln, NE is making available 1 scholarship in the amount of $500. All high school seniors are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Selection will be based on evidence of good citizenship and high moral character as well as scholastic standing and financial need.

Summer School registration materials are now available in the Counseling Center.

Registration dates are as follows:

Week of April 18 - Current LPS Seniors only

Week of April 24 - Current LPS Seniors and Juniors only

Week of May 1 - All LPS Students

Week of May 8 - All LPS Students - last day to accept and enter registration at LSW is May 10 at 4 pm.  After this point, students and families will need to register at Lincoln NorthStar at the start of summer school.

Please contact your student's counselor (and/or IEP manager if applicable) to assist in the process of selecting necessary classes.  Completed applications (and payment if necessary) can be brought to Mrs. Way, the counseling secretary, for processing.  

All in-person classes will be held at Lincoln NorthStar, June 1 - July 14.  E-learning will be offered at East, Lincoln High, Northeast, Southeast, North Star or Bryan.  If a student is only taking a 3-week e-learning course or needs 3 weeks to complete a course, this will be done only at East High School.  If a student desires to take an e-learning course, please indicate the preferred location on the registration form.  

If a student plans to be gone for vacation, camps or clinics for 3+ days of summer school, they should not register for classes.  

Please contact your student's counselor, (IEP manager if applicable), or the Counseling Center if you have additional questions about summer school.

The Inspiring Women Scholarship is a tribute to Helen Boosalis by the Nebraska Democratic Women's Caucus. The $500 scholarship will be awarded to three Democratic Nebraska women who are active in their communities and progressive politics and who will graduate from high school and begin college in Fall 2017. Applicants need to submit an essay of up to 500 words about a female democratic politician or community activist who inspired their own community service and political involvement.

Interested students who will be entering grades 9-11 in Fall 2017 are invited to attend the UNMC Nursing Vitals Summer day Camp, to be held June 13th-14th, 2017 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing's Lincoln Division. For more details and to download the application, please click here. 

The application and two teacher recommendation forms must be completed and submitted to the UNMC College of Nursing - Lincoln Division by 4:30 pm on Monday, May 1, 2017. Students will be notified via email by May 12th, 2017 about the status of their applications. For students who are selected to participate, they and a parent/guardian/adult mentor, will need to attend an informational session on the evening of June 13th.

Recurring Announcements:

Attention juniors and seniors interested in attending Post Prom: All student will be required to submit a parent signed waiver to Mrs. Mescher in the Media Center to complete your ticket purchase. Tickets sales will be ONLINE ONLY the week before prom. April 24th through May1st. No tickets will be sold the week of prom and there are only 600 tickets available for this event.  You can go online now and print the waiver from and have it signed and returned to Mrs. Mescher before sales even start! Visit the LSW home page and click on the big Post Prom banner which will take you to the download page. This will save you time and make your ticket purchase faster! Anyone who returns their completed form by Friday, April 21st will be entered into a drawing for a $50.00 Target gift card!  See Mrs. Mescher in the Media Center if you have any questions!

SHOS applications are now available for the 2017-2018 school year. See Mrs. Bales in room B204 ASAP if you interested in being a SHOs Leader next year. The deadline is April 21st.

Student Council applications are now available for 2017-18 school year. Pick up your application today form the main office or Mrs. Hammers. Applications are due April 28th. Come join a wonderful group of leaders.

The Lincoln Police Department school resource officers have organized a summer police experience for students across the city. This two day long Summer Youth Academy is open to students 14-18 years of age and will be held at the Lincoln Police Range on June 6th and June 7th, 2017. Participants will receive a bird's eye view of the policing profession, participating in activities such as crime scene processing and canine demonstrations. Please talk with Officer Fisher if you have any questions or to obtain an application to participate.  Applications are due April 30, 2016 at 4:00pm.

Anyone looking for GOPO hours or just want to help out? Hill Elementary is hosting a carnival night on May 5th and is looking for help. Please see Mr. Pedroza if you are interested.

Saturday, April 22 from 9am-1pm is our bi-annual Electronics Recycling Fundraising Drive for the Music Department, which also happens to be EARTH DAY.  

If you have done any spring cleaning and have found some old electronics that you want to throw away, bring them to the recycle drive instead!  We are going green!  Anything that uses (or once used) electricity can be recycled!  The company we use is called "Secure Recyclers" so you can bring your old computers or laptops without worrying about your files or electronic information. Please don't hesitate to contact the LSW Band staff if you have any questions!

Thursday, April 20th, the Lighthouse is sponsoring a College Career Fair. Free dinner from 5:30 to 6 p.m. College Fair is 6-7p.m. There will local colleges, armed forces, financial resources, scholarship information, door prizes and endless opportunities. Bring your family and friends for more chances to win.

Display your art at Flight Night’s Art Gallery. Grab a form from the main office and turn it in along with our artwork to Mrs. Hammers April 14 in room A209 by 3:30p.m.  Flight night is April 21 and 22nd at 7p.m. and your art will be featured at the event.

Attention all students who are signed up for the AP Psychology National Exam this spring: Remember that Mr. Schuster will be conducting AP Psychology review sessions ever Tuesday and Thursday morning during the month of April from 7:15a.m.- 8:00a.m. in room A114. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Schuster in room A114 or in the A117TPC

For students taking the AP Biology exam in May, there will be a review session either Wednesday before school at 7:30 or Thursday after school in A109. If you can’t attend either session please check in with Mr. Thomsen.

Juniors, if you want to get those GOPO hours done over the summer, the Lincoln City Libraries are looking for summer reading volunteers.  There are registration forms at your local library or in the LSW counseling center.  Get a jump start on your senior year!

Want to design next year’s school t-shirt? Now is your chance! Come up with an idea for our school store t-shirt! You don’t have to be an artist, give us a basic idea and a graphic and a graphic artist can perfect it. If your design is picked you get a free shirt! Please submit all designs to lswstore15@gmail.com or drop it off at the school store when open. The deadline is April 30th.
