NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Yearbooks will be on sale Tuesday thru Friday this week before and after school in room C110. Cost is still $50.00 this week only. Cost will be $55.00 after Jan. 16th.

ATTENTION JUNIOR GIRLS - GIRL'S STATE APPLICATIONS ARE HERE The 2009 Cornhusker Girl's State, sponsored by the Nebraska American Legion Auxiliary, will be held May 31-June 6, 2009 on the City Campus of the University of Nebraska. At Girl's State, the "citizens" study local, county and state government processes. Girl's State gives participants the experience of living together as self-governing citizens with the privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship. Eligibility for participation is based on: 1. Completion of junior year in high school 2. Interest in government and current events 3. High moral character 4. Strong leadership skills 5. Above average scholastic standing. If you are a junior young lady interested in applying for Girl's State, please see Mrs. Winter for an application. Application deadline is January 26, 2009. (This means that all forms must be received by the American Legion by this date.)

Need help registering for the ACT or SAT? Want to know where to find some study strategies to help improve your score? Do you know which test penalizes incorrect answers and which one doesn't? Come to the Counseling Center Tuesday, January 13th during PLC time, 2:15- 3:15, and we can help!

Silver Hawk Theatre Scholarship forms are now available in the counseling center and the Theatre Black Box to seniors who will be graduating in 2009. Forms are due back to Mr. Henrichs by MARCH 10. For any questions or more information please call 436-1306 ext. 66039.

Auditions for the spring musical, The Pirates of Penzance, will be ONE DAY ONLY - Tuesday, Jan. 27. There will be two sessions: 3:15-5:30pm and 7:00pm - ??. Students need to attend only one session. Audition packets available now at the theatre box office. Cost is $1.00 per packet to cover duplication.

Concession Stand will be open every Monday from 3:15-3:45

Tuesday PLC Study Hall Need some extra help with an assignment or maybe just a quiet place to work? Every Tuesday, after school, we will have a staffed study hall in B111. Please report by 2:20 pm and you may stay until 3:10 pm.

SCHOLARSHIPS - An updated list of scholarships is available in the counseling center or on the LSW web site (http://lsw.lps.org/) under: Popular Pages>Counseling Center >Planning After High School>Scholarships.

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS - The 2009 LPS Foundation Scholarship book is now available in the counseling center. Only 100 copies were provided to each high school. These will be available for distribution on a first come - first served basis in the counseling center. All of the scholarships are on the Foundation website at www.foundationforlps.org, along with the standard Foundation application.

Are you interested in being an EXCHANGE STUDENT to GERMANY? Youth For Understanding USA announces the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Scholarship. These scholarships are awarded to 50 high school students who wish to spend the year as an exchange student in Germany (July 2009 - July 2010). This is an excellent opportunity and if you apply, you are very likely to be selected for this scholarship. Recipients will live with a host family, attend the local high school and receive a four week orientation and language course before the start of the school year. Scholarship winners are responsible for round trip domestic flights to Washington D.C., visa and passport application fees and all spending money. Applications are available on the YFU USA website at www.yfu-usa.org. All applications should be mailed to YFU USA and must be postmarked on or before January 13, 2009.

Outstanding Young Volunteer of the Year Award - The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. - $5,000 Savings Bond & trip awarded to student, ages 12 to 15, who has provided outstanding volunteer service to his or her community. Deadline Feb. 1. See Mrs. Volker in the counseling center for an entry form.

Young American Creative Patriotic Art Awards - Students in grades 9-12. Sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. National Scholarships of up to $10,000 awarded. Deadline March 31. See Mrs. Volker in the counseling center for an entry form.
