Parents, Teachers & Community Leaders: Nominate a student (ages 6-18) for the Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program. Over the past eight years, Kohl's has awarded more than $1.8 million in scholarships and prizes to kids nationwide. Whether organizing a local food drive, helping a younger child learn to read or cleaning up a community park, every contribution makes a difference. This year, Kohl's plans to recognize more than 2,000 kids with prizes ranging from $50 gift cards to $5,000 scholarships. Choir Vocal Audition/Placements for 2009/10 school year will be Feb. 9-20th. Students NOT currently in choir will need to come in before or after school. Please sign up for 7 min. time slot on sheets posted outside choir office.
Show Choir Dance Auditions Feb. 19 & 20 at 3:15pm. Students only need to come one of the two days. Come in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.
Online registration for next year's juniors is now through Sunday, February 1st at midnight. Access to the online registration site will require a student's ID and password information. Information is available on the LSW website located at http://lsw.lps.org/ for reviewing graduation requirements, college entrance requirements, and instructions for accessing the online registration program at home. Counselors will be available on Thursday, January 29th on a first-come, first-serve basis from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Please check in with Mrs. Way at the entrance of the Media Center Lab.
THE PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD: Applications are now available from the Counseling Center and the Main Office. Forms need to be turned into Keri Applebee in the Main Office or Jake Sedivy in the Theatre Box Office by March 16, 2009. Volunteer service hours should be for hours worked from January 2008 - December 31, 2008. One form needed for each volunteer site.
Attention all Japan travelers! The official sign up meeting for the October 2009 trip will be Sunday, February 1 at 1:30 PM in the Lux Middle School multipurpose room. COLLEGE BOUND SENIORS - It's FAFSA Time! It's time to get serious about the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) - the application for state, federal and college-specific financial aid. February is typically the time to apply as many colleges have a March 1 priority filing date. (Contact the colleges you applied to and ask about their priority date.) Seniors to do list: (1) Apply for a Department of Education PIN (one for you and one for a parent). (2) Complete student and parent 2008 tax returns. (3)Complete the FAFSA (4)Continue to apply for scholarships. Check the LSW Counseling Center web site for more information or see your counselor today!

Military If you're serious about joining the military, then get serious about the *Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)*.Your scores in four critical areas -- Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge -- count towards your Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) score. The AFQT score determines whether you're qualified to enlist in the U.S. military. The ASVAB will be given here at LSW on Tuesday, Feb. 10th in the main office. Attention Students interested in UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS at BRYANLGH COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES - Application deadline for Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Spring 2010 is June 1, 2009. Application deadlines will be February 1 for Fall starts and June 1st for Spring starts. Program application deadline for the School of Allied Health is April 1, 2009. Students will now be accepted into the School of Allied Health programs, Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, Vascular Sonography, Adult Cardiac Sonography, and General Sonography; directly out of high school with no college level pre-requisites required.
