JUNIORS - American Legion Junior Law Cadet Program - Young Women's Session, June 8-12, 2009 - Young Men's Session June 15-19, 2009 - Participants will stay at the NE Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island. The American Legion Post provides all free of charge. Basic Requirements: high school junior in good health and able to participate in physical activities, must possess a positive attitude and display respect for law enforcement, good grooming, average or above scholastic record, be able to share the knowledge gained through the program with others, must possess a valid NE operator's license or learner's permit. If interested in applying, see Mrs. Volker in the counseling center. All completed applications due to Mrs. Volker by Feb.24th.

Nominate your teacher There is still plenty of time to thank your teacher in honor of Nebraska Teacher Recognition Day on Tuesday, March 3. Students and grown-ups can pay tribute to a teacher who has made a difference in their lives by nominating them for recognition in the annual Thank You Teacher contest sponsored by Lincoln Public Schools and KFOR/KFRX Radio. Nominations are due Friday, Feb. 13. Students and former students are urged to nominate a teacher or professor in Lancaster County for special recognition in any of six categories: preschool-grade 2, grades 3-5, middle school, high school, university and retired. The six winning teachers will be honored at a breakfast March 3 at the Governor's Mansion, along with the students and former students who nominated them. Entries should include a written description, explaining why a teacher made a difference in your life, as well as: the teacher's name, grade level and school (or contact information), as well as the nominator's name, address and phone number. February is Fairness Month at LSW - Character Counts would like to remind students and staff that Fairness means playing by the rules, taking turns and sharing, being open- minded; listening to others, not taking advantage of others and not blaming others carelessly.
8th to 9th grade on line registration for next year is from 8am Feb. 3 to Feb. 23 midnight. Help sessions will be held Monday, Feb. 9th & Tuesday Feb. 10th from 3:30-6:30pm each day. It is requested that students whose last names begin with A-K attend on Feb. 9th and last names L-Z attend on Feb. 10th.

Show Choir Dance Auditions Feb. 19 & 20 at 3:15pm. Students only need to come one of the two days. Come in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.
THE PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD: Applications are now available from the Counseling Center and the Main Office. Forms need to be turned into Keri Applebee in the Main Office or Jake Sedivy in the Theatre Box Office by March 16, 2009. Volunteer service hours should be for hours worked from January 2008 - December 31, 2008. One form needed for each volunteer site.
