8th to 9th grade on line registration for next year is from 8am Feb. 3 to Feb. 23 midnight. Help sessions will be held Monday, Feb. 9th & Tuesday Feb. 10th from 3:30-6:30pm each day. It is requested that students whose last names begin with A-K attend on Feb. 9th and last names L-Z attend on Feb. 10th.

Choir Vocal Audition/Placements for 2009/10 school year will be Feb. 9-20th. Students NOT currently in choir will need to come in before or after school. Please sign up for 7 min. time slot on sheets posted outside choir office.

Attention JUNIORS: Applications are now available for the 2009 Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement Award. A Hamilton Award Winner...*Is a Junior in high school., *Is college bound., *Has a strong record of community service, *Shows a strong commitment to their academic studies,*Is a self starter and has proven this through activities such as: organizing a fundraiser, starting a business, starting a club or organization or working to help support his or her family, *Shows passion and commitment to their interests. This is often manifested in athletic, artistic or academic achievements. *Has some personal need. When choosing our winners we take the applicant's financial, family and community situation into consideration. Top National Winners receive: $500 cash scholarship, Fully-paid Leadership Training in Seattle (2010) and in Guatemala (2011). Winter Formal Dance is Friday, Feb. 20th. Tickets will go on sale the week of Feb. 16th. All fines must be paid before you will be able to purchase a dance ticket. Please check the Main Office window to see if you have fines. Don't wait until the last minute.

THE PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD: Applications are now available from the Counseling Center and the Main Office. Forms need to be turned into Keri Applebee in the Main Office or Jake Sedivy in the Theatre Box Office by March 16, 2009. Volunteer service hours should be for hours worked from January 2008 - December 31, 2008. One form needed for each volunteer site.

Valentine Flowers will be on sale now thru Feb. 13 before & after school, and during lunch in the Commons. $2.00 for a carnation, $4.00 for a rose. Remember that special student, teacher, or staff member and help support the LSW Theatre department at the same time.

COLLEGE BOUND SENIORS - FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) - the application for state, federal and college-specific financial aid. Many colleges have a March 1 priority filing date. (Contact the colleges you applied to and ask about their priority date.) Seniors to do list: (1) Apply for a Department of Education PIN (one for you and one for a parent). (2) Complete student and parent 2008 tax returns. (3)Complete the FAFSA (4)Continue to apply for scholarships. COLLEGE BOUND JUNIORS to do list: (1) Register by February 10 for the March 14 SAT (SAT Reasoning Test only) (2) Register by February 27 for the April 4 ACT. Attention Students interested in UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS at BRYANLGH COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES - Application deadline for Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Spring 2010 is June 1, 2009. Application deadlines will be February 1 for Fall starts and June 1st for Spring starts. Program application deadline for the School of Allied Health is April 1, 2009.

JUNIORS - American Legion Junior Law Cadet Program - Young Women's Session, June 8-12, 2009 - Young Men's Session June 15-19, 2009 - Participants will stay at the NE Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island. The American Legion Post provides all free of charge. Basic Requirements: high school junior in good health and able to participate in physical activities, must possess a positive attitude and display respect for law enforcement, good grooming, average or above scholastic record, be able to share the knowledge gained through the program with others, must possess a valid NE operator's license or learner's permit. If interested in applying, see Mrs. Volker in the counseling center. All completed applications due to Mrs. Volker by Feb.24th.

Young American Creative Patriotic Art Awards - Students in grades 9-12. Sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. National Scholarships of up to $10,000 awarded. Deadline March 31. See Mrs. Volker in the counseling center for an entry form.
