Any student wanting to take the AMC Form B test on Wednesday, Feb. 25th must inform Mr. DeVries by this Friday, Feb. 20th.

Congratulations to Coach Finley and the following wrestlers for their excellent showing at districts and good luck at State this week: Connor Carstens-3rd Place, Jon Castro-District Runner-up, Rudy Fiedler-4th Place, Jordan Brooks-District Champion, Sam Schmidt-District Runner-up, Ben Samani-District Champion & Beau Muehling-3rd Place.

Congrats to the debaters for winning the Southeast Tournament. Special congrats to champions Kaitlyn Steinacher & Charles Chen (PF) and Jimmy Lee (Novice LD). Other finalists included Albert Zhou, Michael Crelin, Paul Poulsen, Noemi Berkowitz, Shahdi Negahban, Kathy Kurth, Maddie Bien, Sydney Hayes, Sarah O'Neill, Jack Zhang, Bilal Kamal.

Congrats to the speech team for an excellent showing at the Apple Valley (MN) tournament. Finalists included Mary Metz, Kelsey Arends, Will Folsom, Andrew Francis, Austin Blankenau, Caitlin Lukin and Nealesh Padhye.

Congrats to the speech team members who placed at North Star on Saturday. Ahsan Kamal was the Top Novice and 5th in Extemp, while Heather Byrne was Top Novice and 8th in Dramatic Interp.

The following students did an excellent job representing LSW in the Home & Garden Show this past weekend: CADD Architecture students - Megan Kaltenberger and MacKenzie Laird for Residential Design Entries and Interior Design students - Shelby Lang, Emily Shanahan, Sami Merchant and Olivia LeBlanc for Interior Design Entries. This was a district contest supported by the Lincoln Homebuilders Association. Congratulations to Megan for receiving 3rd place and Honorable Mention was given to Olivia and Sami.

ALL Juniors - Junior class meeting at 1pm in the auditorium on Tuesday, Feb. 17th. The agenda includes: College Visit Opportunities, Utilizing the LPS Post High School Planning Guide, and Making Your College Search Count. Please BRING a PEN or PENCIL!!! Parents/guardians are welcome to attend.

ALL Seniors - Senior Class Meeting - 2:15p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17th, in the auditorium after early release. The topic will be "Making College and Career Count." This free presentation brought to us by Monster gives seniors information to make a successful transition from high school to college or their first career. ANY SENIOR THAT ATTENDS HAS AN OPTION TO WRITE AN ESSAY FOR A CHANCE AT $1,000 to $5,000 of SCHOLARSHIP MONEY offered by the company. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend

RECURRING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Yearbooks will be sold Feb. 17-20 before and after school (except PLC afternoons). They will also be sold during Parent/Teacher conferences. Cost is $55.

Yearbook senior ads sales (due Jan. 16) are officially over. Sorry, but Yearbook is no longer taking any senior ads. Thanks for your orders.

Winter Formal Dance Tickets will be sold through Thursday of this week, Feb. 17-19. On Tuesday you may purchase tickets before school, during lunch, or after school. On Wednesday tickets may be purchased before school, during lunch and during Parent Teacher Conferences, 4-7pm. Parents will not be allowed to purchase tickets for students. On Thursday tickets may be purchased before school and at lunch only. DO NOT WAIT TILL THURSDAY AT LUNCH TO PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS! All fines must be paid before you will be able to buy dance tickets. Please check the office window to see if you have any fines.

Students planning on attending UNL or UNK--- the University of Nebraska Math Placement exam will be offered here at LSW on Wednesday, April 1st. Students interested in taking the placement exam need to register in the Counseling center before March 5th. Questions, see Mr. Ahlschwede in the Math department or Ms. Tegeler in the Counseling center.

Choir Vocal Audition/Placements for 2009/10 school year are now through Feb. 20th. Students NOT currently in choir will need to come in before or after school. Please sign up for 7 min. time slot on sheets posted outside choir office.

Nominate your teacher There is still plenty of time to thank your teacher in honor of Nebraska Teacher Recognition Day on Tuesday, March 3. Show Choir Dance Auditions Feb. 19, 5:00 - 7:00 pm and Feb. 20, 3:15 - 5:00 pm. Students only need to come one of the two days. Come in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.

THE PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD: Applications are now available from the Counseling Center and the Main Office. Forms need to be turned into Keri Applebee in the Main Office or Jake Sedivy in the Theatre Box Office by March 16, 2009. Volunteer service hours should be for hours worked from January 2008 - December 31, 2008. One form needed for each volunteer site.

Silver Hawk Theatre Scholarship forms are now available in the counseling center and the Theatre Black Box to seniors who will be graduating in 2009. Forms are due back to Mr. Henrichs by MARCH 10.

COLLEGE BOUND SENIORS - FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) - the application for state, federal and college-specific financial aid. Many colleges have a March 1 priority filing date. (Contact the colleges you applied to and ask about their priority date.) Seniors to do list: (1) Apply for a Department of Education PIN (one for you and one for a parent). (2) Complete student and parent 2008 tax returns. (3)Complete the FAFSA (4)Continue to apply for scholarships. Attention Students interested in UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS at BRYANLGH COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES - Application deadline for Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Spring 2010 is June 1, 2009. Application deadlines will be February 1 for Fall starts and June 1st for Spring starts. Program application deadline for the School of Allied Health is April 1, 2009.
