Congratulations to the LSW Forensics Team for winning the 2009 Leading Chapter Award. This is a national award for excellence in forensics, and is based on accumulating the most members and degrees between 2002-2008.

Congratulations to our national speech qualifiers -- Christina Mayer won Domestic Extemp and Mary Metz was runner-up in Dramatic. Both qualify to attend the 2009 "Stars Fell on Alabama" National Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama. Congrats also to our finalists: Will Folsom (3rd in Humorous), Aleem Malik (3rd in International Extemp), Kaley Cook (4th in Oratory), Austin Blankenau/Andrew Francis (6th in Duo) and Nealesh Padhye (7th in International Extemp). Semifinalists included Bess Folsom and Tegan Colton in Dramatic, Ahsan Kamal in Domestic Extemp and Kerri Peters/Grant Thomas in Duo.

Congratulations to the debate team for being the 2009 Nebraska Invitational Tournament Runners-Up. Special congrats to Novice LD Champion Noemi Berkowitz, Varsity LD semifinalists Paul Poulsen and Michael Crelin and Varsity PF 4th place finishers Kaitlyn Steinacher and Alex Janssen.

STATE BASKETBALL The LSW Boys Varsity Basketball team will be playing in the State Basketball tournament on Thursday, March 12, 9:00am at Devaney Sports Center. Cost for students $5.00 Adults $7.00. Activity passes are not valid for state games. (Reminder - there is no school at LSW on Thursday, March 12) If our team wins on Thursday, they will play again on Friday, March 13, 9:00am at Devaney. Students may attend the game on Friday, but parents must call the attendance office to excuse them. When calling, please provide the student's name and ID number. Students must provide their own transportation to and from the game. Students will be expected to return to LSW within one hour after the game is concluded. The championship game will be Saturday, March 14 at 1:30pm at Devaney. GO HAWKS!!

National Honor Society Juniors who have received notification that you are a candidate for National Honor Society please remember the mandatory meeting on March 16 at 3:15 pm. in Forum A118 OR, March 17 at 7:30 am in Forum A118.

NEBRASKA Black Male Empowerment Summit on Saturday, March 28th at the Nebraska Union City Campus at 14th & R Streets. Anyone and everyone that has an interest in the plight of the African American male is invited to attend this great opportunity. Cost: $5 for high school & college students & $10 for community members.

THE PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD: Applications are now available from the Counseling Center and the Main Office. Forms need to be turned into Keri Applebee in the Main Office or Jake Sedivy in the Theatre Box Office by March 16, 2009. Volunteer service hours should be for hours worked from January 2008 - December 31, 2008. One form needed for each volunteer site.

Lincoln Air Force Junior Reserved Officer Training Corps Program (AFJROTC) Interested students and their parents are invited to attend an AFJROTC Informational Meeting at LNE on April 23rd at 6:30pm in the Commons Representatives from the AFJROTC Program along with Northeast Counselors will present information about the program and answer any questions. BRYANLGH COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES MEDICAL CAREERS SUMMER CAMP - Must be a sophomore, junior or senior during the 2009-2010 school year. June 8-12 - $250 - Registration deadline is Friday, May 1. AUTOMOTIVE SUMMER CAMP - Hands-on opportunity to experience what it would be like to pursue a career in the automotive field. SCC Milford Campus - June 12 & 13, 2009. The application must be postmarked by October 31, 2009, to Senator Nelson's Omaha office in order to begin your file for nomination.
