SENIORS IMPORTANT If you have not ordered your cap and gown, you need to do so immediately. The school does not order this for you. Without a cap and gown you will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony. Place your order on online at lincolngraduation.com. Stop by the office if you have questions.

Any student interested in auditioning for colorguard MUST be in attendance at ALL rehearsals. Colorguard rehearsals will be Monday-Thursday, April 27-30 from 3:30-5pm. The audition will take place on Friday, May 1st after school. All flags and routine sheets will be given out at rehearsal. Please wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing. Contact Mrs. Wilhelm if you have questions.

NHS Spring selection letters will mailed April 15th.

Summer School will take place at North Star High School and will run from June 11th- July 23rd. Summer School hours are from 8am-12pm. Registration for Summer School will take place in the Counseling Center. Registration will begin on April 20th and will end on May 29th. Students that wish to attend summer school should talk with their counselor. Course offerings are limited and students may enroll in a maximum of 2 courses. There is a cost associated with summer school. Summer school information is posted on the LPS web site.

SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY OPPORTUNITY: Write a one-paragraph essay answering the following question: "What would you say to your favorite athlete who recently got caught cheating because he used steroids?" The winning essay will earn a Dale Murphy $3,000 scholarship which will be divided into three sections: for his or her school, for a particular teacher/classroom, and they will earn $1,000 for themselves.
On top of the scholarship money, they have teamed up with the Kansas City Royals. There will be guaranteed winners from your local community to attend and be recognized at an Royals game this season. All essays need to be submitted through the website: www.iwontcheat.com, or mailed. Students will have until June 30, 2009 to submit their essays. Students going on the Worlds of Fun Trip, the t-shirt design deadline is Friday at 3:15. The winning entry gets their trip free. Also make sure to get your permission form turned in by next Friday.

Yearbook sales are this week, before and after school by the front office. The last sale before they come will be May 5-8 before and after school, including at parent teacher conferences May 7. They are still $55, but will go to $60 and won't be sold again until distribution the end of May. Save money--reserve your copy now!

The Lincoln Southwest Athletic Department would like to invite you to attend a presentation on the NCAA Clearinghouse by Katie Jewell from the University of Nebraska. This presentation will discuss the initial college eligibility for students interested in competing in college athletics along with the recruiting process. We encourage parents and students to attend this seminar on Wednesday, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. It will be held in the A118 Forum at Southwest High School. It is not too early to start preparing your freshmen through junior athlete for this process, so we look forward to seeing you on April 15th at 7 pm.

The Information Technology Focus Program invites you to stop by and see what happens at ITFP. You can visit our location any day now through April 17. It takes less than one hour. See Mrs. Finkhouse or your computer teacher to get a pass.

April is Citizenship Month - Good Citizenship means doing your share to make your school and community better. Cooperating. Getting involved in community affairs. Staying informed; vote. Being a good neighbor. Obeying laws and rules. Respecting authority. And protecting the environment.

Need a Summer Job?? It is that time of the year again when corn detasseling companies are preparing for their summer work. Information sheet and sign-up with Mrs. Way in the counseling center. Deadline to sign up is April 27th.

The Norden Club of Lincoln Foundation assists individuals who wish to study and promote an appreciation of Scandinavian heritage. There are a variety of ways in which to pursue this: a classroom course, studying abroad, travel, cultural arts, or a Scandinavian studies camp. Applicants can be any youth of high school age to be eligible for one of two $1000 scholarships or grants-in-aid. Please see Mrs. Volker in the counseling center for an application which must be postmarked by April 30th.

BRYANLGH COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES MEDICAL CAREERS SUMMER CAMP - Must be a sophomore, junior or senior during the 2009-2010 school year. June 8-12 - $250 - Registration deadline is Friday, May 1. BLOOD DRIVE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: Through our success during Blood Drives, LSW is making available six or more $500 college scholarships to LSW seniors. Pick up an application in the counseling center today. Applications will be accepted through Friday, May 8. The scholarship program is sponsored by the Community Blood Bank, which has donated the funds based on the amount of units of blood collected throughout the year at our Blood Drives. Thanks to the CBB and the LSW HOSA Club for making these scholarships available!

JUNIORS interested in an APPOINTMENT TO THE U.S. MILITARY, NAVAL, AIR FORCE & MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMIES with academy classes starting in July, 2010, should see your counselor for information and the Application for Nomination to the U.S. Service Academies. The application must be postmarked by October 31, 2009, to Senator Nelson's Omaha office in order to begin your file for nomination.

JUNIORS - UNL - NEBRASKA LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE A new program to help students develop their leadership potential! Students will learn about how students get involved on the university campus, learn what kind of leader you can be at UNL, work with current student leaders on campus & create goals for your organizations and community. Attention all Juniors, due to a change in procedures, all ACT test sites will now offer the September 12th testing date as an option. The LSW Counseling center would like to encourage next year's seniors to consider trying the test on this date, which will require signing up before Aug 7th without a late fee, or Aug. 21st with the late fee... ACT registration materials and prep booklets for 2009-2010 will be available this summer, so students will need to register on-line at ACT.ORG.

The Fire Explorer Program - Information is now available from Mrs. Volker in the counseling center about this program with the Lincoln Fire & Rescue. Meetings at Fire Station #8 every Sunday that B-shift works, which amounts to 1 meeting every 3 weeks. Dues of $2 are collected at each meeting to help meet expenses.
