NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Junior and Senior Prom is May 9th from 8:00-12:00 p.m. at UNL Student Union. Tickets are $15.00 per person or $25.00 per couple. Juniors and Seniors may purchase tickets May 4 thru May 7th. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (May 4-6) tickets will be sold before school, at lunch, and afterschool. On Thursday (May 7) tickets will be sold before school and at noon only! Tickets will not be sold after the noon hour on Thursday so please make sure to purchase a ticket before the cut off. Both students will need to be present to purchase tickets as a couple for $25.00 unless the other person is from another school. Students may need to purchase the tickets before or after school for both parties to be present so please plan ahead. All fines must be paid before students will be eligible to purchase tickets for prom. Don't wait until the last minute to pay your fines!

AIR FORCE JUNIOR ROTC (AFJROTC) INFORMATIONAL MEETING APRIL 23rd at 6:30pm Interested students and their parents are invited to attend an AFJROTC Informational Meeting in the Lincoln Northeast High School Commons. Northeast will host the Lincoln Public Schools AFJROTC program beginning in the 2009-10 school year. Representatives from the AFJROTC Program along with Northeast Counselors will present information about the program and answer any questions. Our AFJROTC sister school, Plattsmouth High School in Plattsmouth, NE, along with Colonel Mike Milburn and his students will have a Color Guard presentation and answer questions. This program is open to current 8th -11th graders.

FACULTY BASKETBALL GAME, sponsored by DECA, will be Monday, April 27 at 7:00pm in the Main Gym. The cost is $2 and all proceeds go to the MDA. 21 members of the faculty and staff will be participating. Come and enjoy the fun and help raise funds for MDA.

RECURRING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Summer School will run from June 11-July 23rd at North Star High School. Registration for Summer School will start in the Counseling Center on April 20 and end on May 29th. Please see your counselor in order to register.

SENIORS IMPORTANT If you have not ordered your cap and gown, you need to do so immediately. The school does not order this for you. Without a cap and gown you will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony. Place your order on online at lincolngraduation.com. Stop by the office if you have questions.

Any student interested in auditioning for colorguard MUST be in attendance at ALL rehearsals. Colorguard rehearsals will be Monday-Thursday, April 27-30 from 3:30-5pm. The audition will take place on Friday, May 1st after school. All flags and routine sheets will be given out at rehearsal. Please wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing. Contact Mrs. Wilhelm if you have questions.

April is Citizenship Month - Good Citizenship means doing your share to make your school and community better. Cooperating. Getting involved in community affairs. Staying informed; vote. Being a good neighbor. Obeying laws and rules. Respecting authority. And protecting the environment.

2009 Graduates--Please check the list of 2009 graduates posted on the Attendance Office window to make sure your legal name is spelled correctly. Diplomas will be printed as shown. See Mrs. Carman, Registrar, if there are ANY changes.

SR SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Butherus, Maser & Love - $300 awarded to a high school graduate seeking higher education in the state of NE. Must rank in top half of class, demonstrate citizenship, leadership, civic responsibility, active in extracurricular activities, has financial need. Deadline, Tuesday, April 21st. Need a Summer Job?? It is that time of the year again when corn detasseling companies are preparing for their summer work. Information sheet and sign-up with Mrs. Way in the counseling center. Deadline to sign up is April 27th.

The Norden Club of Lincoln Foundation assists individuals who wish to study and promote an appreciation of Scandinavian heritage. There are a variety of ways in which to pursue this: a classroom course, studying abroad, travel, cultural arts, or a Scandinavian studies camp. Applicants can be any youth of high school age to be eligible for one of two $1000 scholarships or grants-in-aid. Please see Mrs. Volker in the counseling center for an application which must be postmarked by April 30th.

BRYANLGH COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES MEDICAL CAREERS SUMMER CAMP - Must be a sophomore, junior or senior during the 2009-2010 school year. June 8-12 - $250 - Registration deadline is Friday, May 1. BLOOD DRIVE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: Through our success during Blood Drives, LSW is making available six or more $500 college scholarships to LSW seniors. Pick up an application in the counseling center today. Applications will be accepted through Friday, May 8. The scholarship program is sponsored by the Community Blood Bank, which has donated the funds based on the amount of units of blood collected throughout the year at our Blood Drives. Thanks to the CBB and the LSW HOSA Club for making these scholarships available!

AUTOMOTIVE SUMMER CAMP - Hands-on opportunity to experience what it would be like to pursue a career in the automotive field. SCC Milford Campus - June 12 & 13, 2009. Leadership Opportunity - Apply to be a member of the Lincoln Council on Alcoholism and Drugs' Drug-Free Youth Board for the 2009-2010 year. Friday, May 8, 2009, deadline to submit the application, 2 letters of recommendation and a signed drug-free pledge.

Summer Health Professions Career Workshop - July 28-31 @ University of NE Medical Center in Omaha - For students entering their JR year, who have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and who have an interest in the health professions. Cost: $250. Application Deadline: June 1. For more information or an application see Mrs. Volker in the counseling center.

SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY OPPORTUNITY: Write a one-paragraph essay answering the following question: "What would you say to your favorite athlete who recently got caught cheating because he used steroids?" The winning essay will earn a Dale Murphy $3,000 scholarship which will be divided into three sections: for his or her school, for a particular teacher/classroom, and they will earn $1,000 for themselves.
On top of the scholarship money, they have teamed up with the Kansas City Royals. There will be guaranteed winners from your local community to attend and be recognized at an Royals game this season. All essays need to be submitted through the website: www.iwontcheat.com, or mailed. Students will have until June 30, 2009 to submit their essays. Attention all Juniors, due to a change in procedures, all ACT test sites will now offer the September 12th testing date as an option. The LSW Counseling center would like to encourage next year's seniors to consider trying the test on this date, which will require signing up before Aug 7th without a late fee, or Aug. 21st with the late fee... ACT registration materials and prep booklets for 2009-2010 will be available this summer, so students will need to register on-line at ACT.ORG.

Attention SENIORS 2010 - The 2009 WENDY'S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN application is now available at www.wendysheisman.com. Any eligible student can register and begin the application process now. This year, we want to hear from all student athletes who work hard, are dedicated, and have become role models for your school's underclassmen! Eligibility for the application is limited exclusively to students who will be in their senior year of high school during the 2009-2010 academic year. They must have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one of the 28 school-sponsored sports listed in the Wendy's High School Heisman application. The application submission deadline for students is October 1, 2009.

JUNIORS interested in an APPOINTMENT TO THE U.S. MILITARY, NAVAL, AIR FORCE & MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMIES with academy classes starting in July, 2010, should see your counselor for information and the Application for Nomination to the U.S. Service Academies. The application must be postmarked by October 31, 2009, to Senator Nelson's Omaha office in order to begin your file for nomination.

JUNIORS - UNL - NEBRASKA LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE A new program to help students develop their leadership potential! Students will learn about how students get involved on the university campus, learn what kind of leader you can be at UNL, work with current student leaders on campus & create goals for your organizations and community. The Fire Explorer Program - Information is now available from Mrs. Volker in the counseling center about this program with the Lincoln Fire & Rescue. Meetings at Fire Station #8 every Sunday that B-shift works, which amounts to 1 meeting every 3 weeks. Dues of $2 are collected at each meeting to help meet expenses.
