Make sure you have ordered your Cap & Gown. Questions - Come to the Main Office.

Seniors need to use up the balances in their lunch accounts. If you won't
be eating lunch at school the rest of the year, please check your balance with
a cashier. If you have money in your account and would like a refund, please don't
wait until the last week of school to request it. Starting May 11, receipts for refunds
may be obtained in the cafeteria managers office.
If the refund is $45.00 or less, this money will be refunded from the book keepers
office. If more than $ 45.00, you will receive a check in the mail from the accounting
dept. at the district office. Refunds may also be obtained during the summer, in
the accounting office at LPSDO.


Dine-Out with FBLA at Culver's on Old Cheney Monday May 11th from 5:30-8:30. Profits from this event will support our National Qualifiers and the chapter's general fund.

Don't forget to purchase candy from FBLA members before/after school. All profits will go to help send two of our students to the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California! $1.00 each.

Summer School will run from June 11-July 23rd at North Star High School. Registration for Summer School is in the Counseling Center now through May 29th. Please see your counselor to register.

Summer Job Shadowing Opportunity for students interested in the field of biology. This would be about 8-12 hours of one-on-one interaction with wildlife biologists and researchers. You must be 16 years of age by June 15th. For an application and more information, please see Mrs. Volker in the counseling center. Applications must be post marked by May 15th.

Leadership Opportunity for NE youth entering grades 9th-12th in the fall of 2009: No Limits Youth Board - No Limits is Nebraska's first youth-led movement that exposes and opposes the tobacco industry's manipulative marketing tactics. It's teens joining forces to change Big Tobacco's influence on our state. The youth board is the guiding body for the entire movement. This is an opportunity to gain leadership skills, build your resume, travel, make friends, have fun and fight Big Tobacco. Transportation, lodging and meals are provided for youth board members at No Limits meetings and events. Attention all students applying to attend Southeast Community College: The Compass, the placement test, used by SCC will be offered to LSW students here at LSW on Tuesday, May 19th at 2:15 pm. The test will measure skills in Reading, Writing and Math and is required before taking classes at SCC. Please sign-up in the counseling center for this untimed test. SCC staff will be present to explain your results to you. See Mrs. Volker in the counseling center for more information and to obtain a study guide for the test.

NEW SCHOLARSHIP FOR SENIORS: Midwest Bank-Lincoln recently established 1-$500 scholarship through the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools for LSW Seniors. The application deadline is May 22, 2009. This scholarship is listed on the Foundation website at:

Summer Health Professions Career Workshop - July 28-31 @ University of NE Medical Center in Omaha - For students entering their JR year, who have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and who have an interest in the health professions. Cost: $250. Application Deadline: June 1. For more information or an application see Mrs. Volker in the counseling center.

SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY OPPORTUNITY: Write a one-paragraph essay answering the following question: "What would you say to your favorite athlete who recently got caught cheating because he used steroids?" The winning essay will earn a Dale Murphy $3,000 scholarship which will be divided into three sections: for his or her school, for a particular teacher/classroom, and they will earn $1,000 for themselves.
On top of the scholarship money, they have teamed up with the Kansas City Royals. There will be guaranteed winners from your local community to attend and be recognized at an Royals game this season. Attention all Juniors, due to a change in procedures, all ACT test sites will now offer the September 12th testing date as an option. The LSW Counseling center would like to encourage next year's seniors to consider trying the test on this date, which will require signing up before Aug 7th without a late fee, or Aug. 21st with the late fee... ACT registration materials and prep booklets for 2009-2010 will be available this summer, so students will need to register on-line at ACT.ORG.

Attention SENIORS 2010 - The 2009 WENDY'S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN application is now available at Any eligible student can register and begin the application process now. This year, we want to hear from all student athletes who work hard, are dedicated, and have become role models for your school's underclassmen! Eligibility for the application is limited exclusively to students who will be in their senior year of high school during the 2009-2010 academic year. They must have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one of the 28 school-sponsored sports listed in the Wendy's High School Heisman application. The application submission deadline for students is October 1, 2009.

JUNIORS interested in an APPOINTMENT TO THE U.S. MILITARY, NAVAL, AIR FORCE & MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMIES with academy classes starting in July, 2010, should see your counselor for information and the Application for Nomination to the U.S. Service Academies. The application must be postmarked by October 31, 2009, to Senator Nelson's Omaha office in order to begin your file for nomination.
