NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Yearbooks will be distributed Thursday, May 28, during 4th block for students who do not have a 4th block class and after school in the hallway by the weight room. You must show your student ID and try to bring your receipt. Senior ads will be available for pickup at distribution times. You may also pick up yearbooks after school on Friday May 29th & Monday June 1. Students may pick up another person's book but only if you have that person's receipt and a signed note from that person giving you permission

Still need to purchase a yearbook? Cost is $60 for any extras. Bring cash or check made out to LSW. No credit or debit cards and no sales before distribution time on May 28th.

RECURRING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to Coach Mahoney, assistant coaches and the Girls' Track & Field team for winning 1st place at the State competition in Omaha. Also, congratulations to the following individuals who placed 1st in their individual events at the Boys/Girls State Track & Field Meets: Kayla Frazier, Joslyn Soucie and Travino Brown.

To accommodate your final projects, the Media Center will be open until 4:30 p.m. now through

Attention JUNIORS (next year's seniors):
In order to graduate next year you will need to complete 20 hours of community service for the government and politics class. This community service can be done and is encouraged to be completed over the summer. Volunteer forms may be picked up in the main office 7:30am-4:00pm. You will need these specific forms to volunteer this summer. For approved volunteer sites please visit these teacher's websites: Mr. Russ Raatz, Mr. Ryan Salem or Mrs. Alyssa Watson.

SENIORS TO DO LIST:
Check the list posted on the Attendance Office Window to make sure your name is correct.
Check with the cafeteria, before June 1st, to see if you owe money or have a refund due you.
Check the list posted in the Main Office window to see if you ordered a cap & gown. If not on the list, call 826-1950. You must have a cap & gown to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Turn in Senior Follow-Up Study Info. (Green Cards) to the Main Office.
Make sure all fines are paid. Check with the Bookkeeper and the Media Center.

SENIOR GROUP PICTURES We have a few group pictures left and have marked the price down to $10.00 for the large group picture OR $17.50 for the large group picture plus 3 different poses. Stop by the Main Office ASAP. First come first served. Make checks payable to "Full Field".

Buy candy bars from FBLA members before/after school for $1.00 each. All profits will go to help send two of our students to the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California!

JUNIORS TO DO LIST FOR COLLEGE PREP:
Continue campus visits. Start narrowing your college choices. By the fall, you should have narrowed your choices to three or four schools. Check out college web sites.
Update your Activities Resume at EducationQuest.org or Career Cruising.
Get a summer job and save for college.

Summer School will run from June 11-July 23rd at North Star High School. Registration for Summer School is in the Counseling Center now through May 29th. Please see your counselor to register.

Summer Health Professions Career Workshop - July 28-31 @ University of NE Medical Center in Omaha - For students entering their JR year, who have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and who have an interest in the health professions. Cost: $250. Application Deadline: June 1. For more information or an application see Mrs. Volker in the counseling center.

The 2010 MISS NEBRASKA TEEN USA Pageant will be held in Norfolk, NE, on October 23-25, 2009. If you are a young woman who possesses that special combination of personal charm, attractiveness and articulation then you might qualify to enter. There will be over $2.5 million in scholarships available at Lindenwood University to the winners. Please go to www.missnebraskausa.com or see Mrs. Volker in the counseling center for an application. The deadline to enter is June 15, 2009.

JRS & SRS - Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with their annual scholarship program. AWARD VALUE: $1,000. You must be at least 16. To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on one of the two topics below. Your submissions must be sent to us by email at scholarships@abbottandfenner.com. If you could have lunch with any famous person, either living or dead, whom would you choose and why? Describe your conversation at lunch. OR When you look back on your life in thirty years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? DEADLINE: June 20, 2009.

SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY OPPORTUNITY: Write a one-paragraph essay answering the following question: "What would you say to your favorite athlete who recently got caught cheating because he used steroids?" The winning essay will earn a Dale Murphy $3,000 scholarship which will be divided into three sections: for his or her school, for a particular teacher/classroom, and they will earn $1,000 for themselves.
On top of the scholarship money, they have teamed up with the Kansas City Royals. There will be guaranteed winners from your local community to attend and be recognized at an Royals game this season. All essays need to be submitted through the website: www.iwontcheat.com, or mailed. Students will have until June 30, 2009 to submit their essays. Attention all Juniors, due to a change in procedures, all ACT test sites will now offer the September 12th testing date as an option. The LSW Counseling center would like to encourage next year's seniors to consider trying the test on this date, which will require signing up before Aug 7th without a late fee, or Aug. 21st with the late fee... ACT registration materials and prep booklets for 2009-2010 will be available this summer, so students will need to register on-line at ACT.ORG.

Attention SENIORS 2010 - The 2009 WENDY'S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN application is now available at www.wendysheisman.com. Any eligible student can register and begin the application process now. This year, we want to hear from all student athletes who work hard, are dedicated, and have become role models for your school's underclassmen! Eligibility for the application is limited exclusively to students who will be in their senior year of high school during the 2009-2010 academic year. They must have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one of the 28 school-sponsored sports listed in the Wendy's High School Heisman application. The application submission deadline for students is October 1, 2009.

JUNIORS interested in an APPOINTMENT TO THE U.S. MILITARY, NAVAL, AIR FORCE & MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMIES with academy classes starting in July, 2010, should see your counselor for information and the Application for Nomination to the U.S. Service Academies. The application must be postmarked by October 31, 2009, to Senator Nelson's Omaha office in order to begin your file for nomination.
