PreACT
All sophomores in LPS will take the PreACT this year. Testing will take place on the morning of November 5th. This will be a non-school day for current Freshmen, Juniors, and Seniors. Classes will resume as normal on the following day, November 6th. The four areas tested will be English, Math, Reading, and Science.
TEST DAY, ROOM ASSIGNMENTS, AND NEEDED MATERIALS:
Test Day Schedule:
7:00-7:45 am- Breakfast served in the cafeteria (optional)
7:50-8:00 am- Report to testing rooms
* Doors will open to the academic testing wings at 7:50 am
8:00 am- Non-Test Information portion begins (student need to be checked in to their testing room by 8 am)
8:45 am (approx)- Testing begins
11:35 am (approx)- Testing ends for Standard-time rooms
**After Testing- A hot lunch will be provided in the cafeteria after the test (optional)
In general, students will ONLY need four things the morning of the test:
1. Printed (and completed) Non-Test Information Worksheet
2. A Photo ID (school ID is fine)
3. Some #2 Pencils
4. An Approved Calculator if you have one (a basic 4-function calculator will be available)
ALL electronic devices (smartphones of any kind, smartwatches, iPods, etc.) are NOT allowed by ACT. The only allowable electronic items are approved calculators (link to list below).
Blood Drive
Student Council is hosting a Blood Drive on Friday, November 6. Students 16 years old and older are able to sign up to donate. Parent permission forms will be sent out to students after they sign up. Students can sign up by using the QR code on the posters in the Hallway and at the sign up table at the front of the school or use the Jump Code XKT4
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences are Thursday, November 12. Conferences are conducted in the commons and throughout the building. Please note new times
3:30-4:00- Targeted Outreach (Teachers will call parents for students of concern.)
4:00-6:00- In-Person Conferences (Unscheduled, First come, first served)
6:00-6:30- Targeted Outreach (Teachers will call parents for students of concern.)
Parents are asked to utilize ParentVUE so they are familiar with how their student(s) are doing. When attending conferences, it is helpful to know your student’s teachers’ names. If you do not know the teachers’ names, you may stop by the commons or the main office and we will look up the names for you. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the main office.

Senior Family Meeting
The Senior Family Meeting is Thursday, October 29, at 6 pm in the auditorium. The meeting will cover post-secondary planning, with an emphasis on 2 year and 4 year college planning. Prior to the meeting, beginning at 5 pm Education Quest will be available to assist with the FAFSA. Representatives from UNL and UNL honors program will be present.

Apply 2 College Week
Join us in celebrating Apply 2 College Week this week, October 26th - 30th. Get in the spirit with some easy dress up days (see poster below), join in the fun and wear an Apply 2 College Week button from the counseling center.

Wear Pink!
ON WEDNESDAYS WE WEAR PINK. Help support breast cancer awareness by wearing pink on Wednesday! Grab your pink shirts, hoodies, socks, accessories, and anything pink. And Join us in spreading Breast cancer awareness this month! Student Council is also selling pink beaded bracelets at the front of the school, before or after school or during lunch. The bracelets cost just one dollar! All funds raised during “On Wednesdays we wear pink” will be going to Breast Cancer Research

Picture Retake Day
Picture retakes are Tuesday, October 6th. Students who need their photo retaken or who are new to Southwest should report to have their photo taken. Pictures are in the theatre hallway and students will be called down for a photo.

Ticket Sales:
Homecoming tickets are priced at $15. Students can purchase tickets with cash or check at the following times.
9/21: after school (3:03-3:30 PM)
9/22: before school (7:30-8:00 AM), during lunches, after school (3:03-3:30 PM)
9/23: before school (7:30-8:00 AM), during lunches, after school (3:03-3:30 PM)

These ticket sales will take place in the upper athletic hallway near the bookkeeper window.
