Banned Book Club(New 24-25) The Banned Book club is an opportunity for students to get involved with their local community & peers to explore and read Banned Books. We have plenty of activities that we will be participating in such as: Reading & Discussing Banned Books. Conducting Interviews with Banned Book Authors. Communicating with the Nebraska Legislature about Book Bans and the impact it has on Nebraska Students. Community Service with Local Libraries & Neighborhoods. Game & Kahoot Days about Banned Books. Community Little Libraries. Bake Sales for Club. Raising money for local Schools to buy and supply them with any books needed. D&D (Dungeons & Dragons)The Southwest Dungeons & Dragons Club is an inclusive gaming experience for fantasy role play at all skill levels. This student run club provides opportunity for story-telling, explorations, and leadership. It is open to anybody and is a safe place to be yourself while being someone else. Dungeons & Dragons is a long-term group roleplaying game (RPG). In D&D, you make a character that you play as, and then go on an adventure with a group of 4-5 other "adventurers" and a Dungeon Master controls the world in which you play in which means literally anything (and everything) will happen!Bruce BullerdiekFridays in the A100 Forum from 3:15-5:00pm
eSportsThis club offers an opportunity for students to connect with other students interested in gaming and have an opportunity to compete in statewide competitions. Students are welcome to play games installed on computers in the classroom, bring their own portable game devices, or just hang out and talk about gaming. Installed games on LPS devices are free-to-play and rated "Teen" or younger. Additionally, throughout the year, there are competititive matches with other schools in Nebraska throught the Nebraska Schools eSports Association (NSESA). Each year has different games occurring over three seasons. Most competitions occur during normal club hours, and qualifying teams are invited to statewide competitions at the end of each season. Students may try out for teams in the weeks leading up to each season.Matt MehrhoffThere are no requirements to join, and students may attend as fits their schedules. During competitive seasons, students involved in teams are expected to attend practices and competitions consistently. The club meets 3:15-4:15 on Thursdays in C204.
FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)FBLA is the largest business Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) in the world! Each year, FBLA helps over 200,000 members prepare for careers in business. FBLA's Mission is to "inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences". FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes)The Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets for breakfast every Thursday morning at 7:30 am in the A118 Forum to help develop relationships with other Christian athletes and using sports as a vehicle to impact the world for God. Hive HelpersHive Helpers is an organization started by high schoolers that is dedicated to protecting native bee and other native pollinator populations as well as a gardening and general environmental club. Hive Helpers promotes ecological awareness through collaboration with the school, local community and national organizations to create a more sustainable future. We plan to increase the vegetable gardens, native pollinator garden, expand ways to improve the health and sustainability of Nebraska native pollinators, and provide environmental awareness to the school and community.Charley BittleMeetings time and place will be stated in the announcements as well as poster around the school.
HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America)The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development. Students are encouraged to explore various areas of health care, and expand their leadership skills. HOSA is about providing opportunities for students to learn and achieve. Members participate in activities, conferences and competitions; as well as take part in community awareness/health projects.

Japanese ClubMembers learn about and celebrate the Japanese culture by exploring language, holidays, food, festivals & calligraphy. Anyone can join, whether they are taking Japanese language classes or not. Club events range from art/craft activities to guest speakers to watching Japanese movies--too many to mention here. Japanese Penpal ClubWant to make a friend from another country? Join Japanese Pen Pal Club! Students are paired with a student from Senshu Daigaku Matsudo High School, our sister school in Japan. Letters and gifts are exchanged throughout the school year, and we end each year with a Zoom party where we gather together, bring food to share, and talk live with our pen pals in Japan. This club starts in September and meets once a month after school on Tuesdays to work on letters and gifts to send. Letters can be written in either English or Japanese, or a combination of the two. No matter the language, it's all about having a heart for other people! Programming ClubThe LSW programming Club is a fun and inclusive club for students who are interested in computer science. Students who are interested in programming, how to program cool apps, and learning various other computer science related topics are welcome to join. All skill levels are welcome! Pro-StartPro-Start Club is an extension of the curriculum we use in Culinary 1-3 courses. At the National Level, ProStart is the career-building program for high school students who are interested in culinary arts and foodservice management. Our goal in the ProStart Club is to give students the opportunity to learn about the art of cooking and managing restaurants using skills and trainings developed by professional chefs. The club exists at LSW to give students the skills and confidence they need to compete in Culinary Competitions both at the LPS and State-wide level. Quiz BowlA team-based club focused on trivia competitions. We participate in several area competitions per year, and use club meetings to practice questions and expand our breadth of knowledge. Science OlympiadThe LSW science competition team competes at Regional, State and National levels against other top science students across the country. Over 6000 teams compete in this program nation wide in areas that include, engineering, life, earth and physical sciences covering 23 different events. This program allows motivated science students an opportunity to develop, learn, and gain confidence and expertise in their areas of interest. Sound Club(New for 24-25) Sound Club is a music based club that guides students to explore different genres of music, open their minds to history on artists of the past, instruments, & genres that influenced our future. Music is made to entertain, join us together, and express our emotions, this club will show students what that means. Exploring different genres of music can open your mind to different styles of art and show you lessons expressing yourself in non verbal ways. Speech/DebateThe LSW Forensics Program offers training and competition in speaking, acting and debate. It is a perfect place to put your creative, intellectual and verbal skills to use in a competitive manner! Weekly team meetings on Monday at 3:15 pm. Individual and group rehearsal sessions (depending on category) take place between 3:30-5:30 on Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu. Competitions on Fridays or Saturdays.
LSW Stage & Studio CluA club for students that are writing, recording and performing music (or interested in getting into it!). The club will give these students an opportunity to meet and collaborate with others that are working on similar skills and projects. The goal is for students to share their music projects and the techniques they use to produce them. Weekly topics will cover songwriting, beat production, vocal and guitar recording techniques, the copyright process, live music mixing, recording equipment and audio engineering. Societe Honoraire de Francais (SHF)
Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (Spanish National Honor Society)Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors, must complete formal application process to join. The Society recognizes high achievement in Spanish and promotes continuity of interest in Hispanic studies. Students may apply for membership after maintaining an honor average in the study of Spanish for at least three semesters. No initiation is to take place earlier than the tenth grade.
Student CouncilMission: To represent the voice of the student body, by coordinating, promoting, and assisting in the daily student organizations and academic/extracurricular activities that shape student life at Lincoln Southwest High. The student council plans and organizes events to promote school unity and student involvement both inside and outside of school. Some specifics include community philanthropy, school improvement (leadership projects), student dances, school unity activities (Flight Night).
Unified Council
Yearbook Yearbook is a NSAA varsity activity for upperclassmen or underclassmen who have taken the prerequisite courses or completed an application. This club is a class taken during the school day with time commitments outside of and after school. Yearbook creates a historical document showcasing the entirety of the school year for current students and a historical document that represents LSW forever.
