There are some important changes to the procedures and expectations for conducting school this year. Below are some of the key updates that have been put in place to help us maintain the health and safety of those around us at school.
School Procedures
Face Coverings
Everyone is expected to have one on, before entering the building. When students enter the building, staff will be present to make sure that they have their face covering and their ID on, prior to entering. Students will continue to scan in with their ID as they arrive each day.
50% Capacity
By reducing the number of students in the building, hallways, classrooms and common spaces will be less crowded, and there will be more room for social distancing as students move around the building. This will make a noticeable difference around LSW.
Lunch
We have made several adjustments to lunch procedures to begin the year:
- Tables have been spread out so there is more room between them, and the area available for seating has been expanded into the upper theatre hallway.
- Seating at each table has been reduced to remove excess seats beyond the number needed to serve at lunch.
- No more overlapping lunch transitions. Students from the previous lunch will be back in classes before the next lunch is dismissed. This will reduce hallway crowds.
- Separating the lunches has added time in-between each lunch that will be used to clean the seating area before the next students arrive to eat.
Bell Schedule
- During the 50% Capacity plan, Wednesdays are now our early release PLC days with school dismissing at 2:03p.m.

Hallways
- Students will be asked to walk on the right side of the hallway, this is not new, but will be reinforced as the best way to avoid crowding the hallways.
- During regular passing time, our unique set-up gives students additional room to spread out and travel between classes. Those of you who have been in our building will recall that each of the four quadrants in our instructional wing have large, open forum spaces, so students do not spend much time passing through hallways with walls on both sides once they are in the instructional wing.
- We have signage and markings available in different locations throughout the building to remind students to have face coverings on and to maintain distance from others.
Random Temperature Checks
- Each day, administrators will randomly check temperatures of students in three individual classrooms, as indicated in the district-wide school reopening plan.
Cleaning and Sanitizing
- Each class will include clean up procedures for shared items and personal spaces to be wiped down and cleaned at the end of the class period. Each classroom will have cleaning supplies and teachers will establish procedures for how everyone will clean up their areas before leaving to attend their next class.
- Custodians have increased their cleaning and disinfecting rotations throughout the building.
- Administrators will be cleaning lunch areas in the commons in between each lunch.
- Hand sanitizer will be available in classrooms and throughout the building.
Helpful Items for School
If you wish to have your own personal school supply items on hand for your classes, here are items that may be helpful to bring with you to school for your classes:
- English, World Language, and Business course items
- Loose leaf paper, pencils, pens, colored pencils, markers, highlighters (3 colors), glue stick, scissors, dry erase markers (2), notecards.
- Science & Math supplies
- Mini whiteboard, dry erase marker and eraser, colored pencils, scissors, ruler, glue stick, notebook paper, graph paper, pencils and erasers
- Family & Consumer Science items
- Sewing students will use tape measures, chalk, ruler, erasers
- Misc items for any class
- Pocket folders, binders, hand sanitizer, kleenex, writing utensils
- Water bottles
- Our drinking fountains are not available for use, but our water bottle filling stations are. If you have a personal water bottle you’re welcome to bring it to have with you.
Chromebook Care
It’s time for your student to pull out their LPS student Chromebook and give it a check-up so that it is ready for the start of school! If the Chromebook hasn’t been used for a while, turn it on this week to make sure it is working properly.
Here’s what your student needs to do to prepare their LPS Chromebook for school:
- Plug in and turn on your Chromebook.
- Sign into the Chromebook.
- Open Google Chrome and click on the “Home” button.
- Ensure you can log in to the LPS portal.
- Click on the time located on the corner of the tray (dock).
- Verify that your Chromebook is charging while plugged into power.
- If your Chromebook is charging you will see a message saying “Battery Full” or indicate an amount of time waiting until fully charged.
- Close the lid, leave your Chromebook plugged in and charge the device for 3 hours to ensure it is fully charged.
- Log back into your Chromebook to verify it is charged.
- Power down your Chromebook using the following steps:
- Click the user panel in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Click the power symbol to power down your Chromebook.

Zooming In To Classes
Students will begin participating in remote learning on Monday, August 17th. Students in high school are utilizing the 3/2 schedule which requires them to use Zoom for their classes. In addition, we have students participating 100% in remote learning. Below are some important resources for families and students participating in remote learning via Zoom:

In addition to these resources, there is still one remaining virtual informational session for families to help answer any questions they have about Remote Learning via Zoom. This is for any student that has chosen 100% Remote Learning and all high school students who are participating in the 3/2 schedule.
MySchoolBucks: Add to your child’s meal account and pay fees online
Lincoln Public Schools is excited to announce a more streamlined and easy way for parents and guardians to pay online for student meals and student fees. Legal parents and guardians can access MySchoolBucks through their ParentVUE accounts. Other adults can access MySchoolBucks by visiting MySchoolBucks.com and setting up an account. More information and detailed instructions for accessing MySchoolBucks can be found at payonline.lps.org
Free and Reduced Meal Applications
Households can apply for free or reduced price school meals, and you must complete an application to qualify. If your household income is at or below the free meal guidelines, your students can receive meals free of charge. If your household income is at or below the reduced meal guidelines, your students can receive lunch for the discounted price of $0.40 and breakfast for $0.30. Applying online is quick and easy, and your application is good for the duration of the school year. You must reapply each new school year.
